Field hockey player Erwin Nossig was captain of the Austrian team at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. The team finished ninth and last in the tournament. They lost all matches in the preliminary round, scoring only one goal, against Denmark.
Nossig trained as an electrical engineer. He was also a field hockey referee and led the referees section the Austrian Field Hockey Association. As a Jew, he fled with his brother Alfred in 1934 to London, and later to Bolivia.
