Robert Pecanka played hockey (field) for Austria at the 1952 Olympics, alongside his brother, Josef Pecanka. He, Josef, and another brother, Alois, dominated Austrian field hockey for several years. Robert Pecanka also excelled at football (soccer) and played tennis at a national level. He continued to be active late in life, playing in senior tennis tournaments and hiking frequently in the mountains.
