Gaston Aumoitte played croquet at the 1900 Paris Olympics, winning gold medals in both one-ball singles and doubles. In doubles he played alongside Georges Johin, who Aumoitte defeated in the finals of the singles. They were the only known competitors in the doubles event. Aumoitte was only 15-years-old when he competed in Paris. He was born in Hanoi, Vietnam where his father worked at the French consulate. Aumoitte spent his life in the military and fought in both World Wars. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was named a “commander of the Legion d’honneur”.
