Robert Fournier-Sarlovèze played polo at the 1900 Olympics, winning a bronze medal with the Bagatelle Polo Club de Paris. Initially a military man, Fouriner-Sarlovèze studied at the special military school in Saint-Cyr and was a lieutenant in the cavalry from 1892-1900.
Fournier-Sarlovèze was elected mayor of Compiègne in 1904 and remained in that position until 1935. He was also General Counsel for the Oise Département, elected in 1910, although he was defeated in the 1914 elections. Fournier-Sarlovèze was re-elected in 1919, serving until 1932.
His wife, Madeleine Fournier-Sarlovèze, played in the 1900 Olympic golf tournament, which was held at the Compiègne Club in their hometown. Robert Fournier-Sarlovèze later translated the book Extraites de Modern Polo.
