Herbert Loveitt and his brother Frank both played rugby for Coventry, Herbert was one of the best full-backs in the Midlands at the time, while Frank was a three-quarter. Herbert also played hockey and cricket for Coventry and North Warwickshire whilst Frank played rugby for Blackheath and the Midlands and was a fine Warwickshire County cricketer. A member of the Moseley Wanderers team at the 1900 Paris Olympics Herbert Loveitt was, like fellow-team mate Claud Whittindale, a Warwickshire auctioneer and was a partner in his father’s business George Loveitt and Sons. Also like Whittindale, Herbert Loveitt died very young, having been ill for the last three years of his life before passing away at the age of 34.
