Jean Montariol was born as the son of a lawyer. Montariol played for the Villa Primrose tennis club in regional and national tournaments in France. In 1909 the French National Championships took place in his hometown, where he reached the final of the men’s doubles, together with Daniel Lawton, losing to Max Decugis and Maurice Germot. In the singles he was eliminated by Germot in the quarter-finals. His only reported victory came in 1910 in a local tournament in Bordeaux.
