Pál Segner was born as the son of a railway supervisor at Lake Balaton. He was a five-times Hungarian singles champion (1902-03, 1905-06, 1909). Segner won also four consecutive championships in the men’s doubles (1909-12) together with Jenő Zsigmondy.
In 1927 he was appointed chairman of the board of auditors. Five years later he became Vice-President of the General Accounting Office. He was also general manager of the National Central Cooperative of Industrialists and served as acting president beginning in 1940.
