As a member of the Budapest Lawn Tennis Club, Ede Tóth finished runner-up in the Hungarian Tennis Championship at the age of 18. He went on to win two singles titles, in 1904 and 1908, and in the latter year reached the second round at the London Olympics. In the doubles, he partnered Jenő Zsigmondy, but they were defeated in their opening match by the eventual silver medallists, Josiah Ritchie and James Parke of Great Britain.
After finishing his playing career, Tóth served briefly as national coach and was a member of the Bureau of the Hungarian National Lawn Tennis Federation, and later, an Honorary Member.
