A native of Milwaukee, Louis Allis’s father, Edward P. Allis, invested in the small D. C. Motor Manufacturing firm in 1901. Louis Allis then took over the company and expanded it greatly, with the company’s name changed to The Louis Allis Company in 1922. The company quickly became an innovator and market leader in the design and manufacture of specialty A.C. Electric Motors. The Louis Allis Company revolutionized many mechanical processes, creating safer and more efficient machines. By the 1940s the company had over 1,000 employees. The company was later taken over by his sons, but it eventually moved to Birmingham, Alabama.
