Robert Thach was listed in some early golf record books as R. H. Flack, but his name is correctly Thach. He was from Birmingham, Alabama, where he was a member of the Birmingham Country Club. He did not make the match play at the 1904 Olympic golf tournament but qualified for the second flight of the consolation events, where he lost his first round match to Art Hussey.
