Talaat Dahshan boxed for the Olympi Club of Alexandria and won his first of five African heavyweight titles in 1965, following it up with victories in 1966 and 1968. This led to his selection to represent Egypt at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he was defeated in round one by Rudie Lubbers of the Netherlands. He then took bronze at the 1971 Mediterranean Games, followed by additional African titles in 1972 and 1974. He also won five Arab titles during his career, which ended in 1979. After his retirement from active competition, he worked as a coach and administrator at his club.
