George Dixon came from Vallejo, California, and attended Cal/Berkeley. His best sport at Cal was basketball, in which he was the team star. After graduation he went into the oil business until World War II when he served as a navy pilot. This led to a career as a commercial pilot and for several years he was the private pilot for the Hearst family
