Philippe Reynaud

Philippe Reynaud served with distinction during World War II and, once the conflict was over, settled into a career as a teacher. Having practiced field hockey since the age of eight, however, he was also in his athletic prime during the post-war years and received his first of 80 selections to the French national team in 1947. From there, he competed in three editions of the Olympic Games (1948, 1952, and 1960), with a best finish of joint-fifth in 1952, after having been defeated by Pakistan in the quarterfinals. He had better luck at the 1955 Mediterranean Games, where France took home a bronze medal. He continued to play field hockey at various levels until he was in his mid-60s, although his international career ended in 1962.
