Biography

Basil Christensen was a member of Beckenham Hockey Club and gained representative honours for Kent and The South before making his England international début against Wales at Colwyn Bay in 1963. A centre-forward, Christensen scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Scotland in his second game for England. In 1964 he helped Kent win the County Championship for the first time by scoring two goals in the 4-2 win over Staffordshire in the final.

Having only just missed selection for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Christensen was a member of the Great Britain team at the 1968 Mexico Games. He played only in the first two group games, a 2-0 win against Argentina and a goalless draw against Australia, after which GB were lying joint second. They ended up finishing 6th (out of 8) in their group and were eventually classified 12th (out of 16).
