Tony Nunn played hockey for Hawks, one of the strongest club sides in the south of England in the immediate post-World War II era. Nunn also won representative honours with Surrey and The South, and played for the Hockey Association XI. In 1952, he went to the Helsinki Olympics and won a bronze medal with the Great Britain team. He played in all three of Britain’s matches but never managed to score, despite being one of the forwards.
Perhaps strangely, and previously being on the fringe of selection, Nunn did not make his England début until two years after the Olympics, when he was selected for the international against Wales at Reading.
