Martina Koch and the West German female field hockey team won the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics round-robin tournament, finishing with six points. She was also on the team that finished fifth at Seoul four years later, following a 4-2 win against Canada in the classification round. She was then known as Martina Hallmen. She was World Champion in 1981, and silver medalist in 1978. She was also European Indoor Champion in 1977, 1981, and 1987, and won the bronze medal at the 1984 Europeans. She won 119 international caps (including 19 indoor) between 1977-88.
Domestically, she played with 1. Hanauer THC, winning the national title in 1981 and 1984, and the indoor title in 1983. Koch-Hallmen studied biology and geography, and later became a teacher.
