Biography

Stefan Blöcher was a member of the West German male field hockey teams that won silver medals at both the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1984, the team lost the final 2-1 to Pakistan after extra time, and in 1988 Great Britain was the gold medal winner after winning 3-1. Blöcher won 259 international caps (including 46 indoor) between 1978-91. He was World Champion runner-up in 1982, won the Champions Trophy from 1986-88, and became European Champion in 1978, and European Indoor Champion 1980, 1984, and 1991.

Domestically, Blöcher played with SC 1880 Frankfurt and Limburger HC, winning the German Championship in 1989 and indoor title in 1986. In 1987, he was elected World Field Hockey Player of the Year. Blöcher became the first German field hockey player to turn professional. He later owned a sport marketing company and organized golf events. From 2016 he was responsible for the marketing of soccer club SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
