Biography

The West German field hockey team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics earned a bronze medal by winning the deciding game against Great Britain 3-1. In the semi-finals Germany had lost 0-1 to India. Eberhard Ferstl played for HC Wacker München domestically and also participated in the 1960 Olympic tournament, where the team finished in seventh place. During the qualification for the 1964 Tokyo Games West Germany lost their matches against East Germany and had to withdraw. From 1956-64 Ferstl claimed 65 international caps.

By profesion he was a bank clerk. He later became a sports administrative with his home club HC Wacker München, and was treasurer from 1963-66, vice president from 1967-68, hockey manager from 1975-76 and member of the honorary board since 1977.
