Friedrich Hidding played field hockey for Club Raffelberg Duisburg and won the West German Championships in 1951 and 1953. In 1952 he moved for one season to Oberhausener THC. For the German national team he won eight international caps, including his participation in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Germany lost to the Netherlands 0-1 in the quarter-final. By profession, Hidding was conductor of the Oberhausen city stages.
