Domestically, Wolfgang Strödter played for Gladbacher HTC until 1970, and won the West German Championship in 1966 and 1967, and the national indoor title, also in 1966. He then moved to Rot-Weiß Köln and helped them to win the national championship three years in succession, 1972-74, and also the national indoor title in 1974. After returning to Gladbacher HTC, Strödter won the national title again in 1981. He later worked for a waste disposal company.
From 1980-88 Strödter was chief coach of the West German women’s national team, and they won the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and then finished fifth at the Seoul Games four years later. Strödter also won the Worlds in 1981, and added a silver medal in 1986. Earlier he won the gold medal at the 1972 München Olympics as an outfield player, and was fifth with the team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics.
