Jürgen, uncle of Christian Wein, played at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic hockey (field) tournament with West Germany, losing the bronze medal match against India, 2-1. East and West Germany played their only international match in a preliminary round, with West Germany winning 3-2. He was capped 27 times between 1962 and 1969. Domestically Wein played with HTC Stadion Rot-Weiss Köln, and helped them win West German titles from 1972-74.
