Egidio Cosentino was a multi-sport athlete in his youth, but he had his greatest success in field hockey. He was selected to represent Italy in the tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where his country was eliminated in round one by France. He earned a structural engineering degree from the University of Trieste and moved to Canada in 1954, eventually opening his own firm, Cosentino & Partners, in Calgary, Alberta in 1977. He remained CEO of that concern, also known as the Gertz Cosentino Group, until his 2006 retirement. He also played local field hockey in Alberta into the 1960s.
