A member of the Kenyan Olympic hockey in Los Angeles and Seoul, Omondi played for his country when Kenya won gold in front of a home crowd at the 1987 All-Africa Games in Nairobi. He was also a member of the Kenyan team that won the African Junior Championships in 1982. After his playing career ended he turned to coaching and became head coach to the national women’s team and an assistant coach to the men’s team. He also served as match secretary to the Kenyan Hockey Union.
