Jack Britto was one of a numbers of Christians, most with family roots in the Portuguese enclave of Goa, who represented Pakistan in the early years of the country’s independence. A graduate of Saint Patrick’s High School, Karachi, he was equally at home in both the centre and right side of defence. Britto played in all 3 of Pakistan’s matches at the 1952 Olympics but shortly afterwards left Pakistan for Malawi where he played for and later coached the national hockey team. Later still he settled in London.
