Joseph Braunsteiner first graduated from the Teachers’ Training College in Wien (Vienna). There, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts 1924-30. After World War II he taught as a lecturer for plastic design at the Pedagogical Institute of the City of Wien. Braunsteiner mainly created monumental figures and groups, groups of animals and portrait busts, but also small sculptures and medals. He worked with stone, wood, and bronze.
He was present at the 1952 Olympic Games with the plaster design of a Prize plaquette. According to some sources, he received an award for his work in Helsinki. However, since it was only an exhibition, it may have been the diploma for participation.
