Biography

One of the best Polish hockey goalies of his time, Jan Górny won 34 caps over a 14-year period (1953-66). Competing in a time before the Hockey World Cup and EuroHockey, his only major international tournament was the 1960 Olympics. With his side, Górny came close to making the quarter-finals, forcing Australia into a play-off in the group stage. Domestically, always playing for Warta Poznań, Górny earned seven national titles, five outdoors (1963, 1965, 1967-9) and two indoors (1963, 1967). He continued his successful run as a coach, making Warta champions in 1972-3 and 1975, before switching to another Poznań side, Pocztowiec.
