Biography

Henryk Grotowski was a Polish locksmith and mechanic who also played field hockey. Grotowski began his hockey career with Stella Gniezno, winning his first national title in 1974. He then joined Lech Poznań, with whom he won back-to-back league titles in 1977 and 1978. From 1968 to 1976 he also played in 89 matches for the Polish national team, scoring 53 goals, competing at the European Championships in 1970 and 1974, the 1972 München Olympics, and the 1975 World Championships. Grotowski continued to have domestic success after his international career, becoming the leading scorer in the league in the 1981-82 season. Following his retirement he worked as a coach at the Polish Field Hockey Association, supervising the junior national team. Grotowski’s son Rafał was also a hockey player, with him competing at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
