Sandy Sims played hockey for the US at the 1948 London Olympics. He competed for the Philadelphia Hockey and Tennis Club and was from Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania in 1948. Sims attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1943. During World War II, he served with the Black Sheep Squadron, formally known as the US Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214).
Sims had an interesting, widely traveled life. He started as an investment banker, then invested in a hosiery business. Sims worked for Oerlikon, an arms manufacturer, but he and his wife then moved to Asheville, North Carolina, a very Bohemian town. He then worked for the CIA for 2-3 years and in 1953 took a job with the US Information Service as a cultural officer for about eight years. Sims later became an artist and he and his wife lived in Paris, London, and Maine.
