Biography

Kate Delbarre had a string of international fencing successes in the 1950s, beginning with silver in the team foil at the 1952 World Championships. She took silver again the following year, with bronze in 1954, followed by two more silver medals in 1955 and 1956, and finally bronze again in 1958. At the Olympics, she was fifth in the individual foil in 1956 and was defeated in the semi-finals in 1960. She was also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the team event in the latter year, alongside Monique Le Roux, Régine Veronnet, Françoise Mailliard, and Renée Garilhe. She was the French individual foil champion in 1961.

In 1971, Delbarre chose one of the world’s top fencers, Christian d’Oriola, as her husband. During the 1970s, she served as the coach of the French national team. She also served on the Rules Commission of the International Fencing Federation.
