Fencer Hans Lion participated in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics with the foil team, which was eliminated in the second-round. Individually he reached the semi-finals. At the 1936 Berlin Games the team then placed an unfortunate fourth. Lion also acted as a referee in Berlin. At the 1931 and the 1937 World Championships, Lion won bronze medals with the Austrian foil teams (1931, 1937) and added a silver in 1933. As a Jew he fled to London during World War II.
