Volker Fischer won three Olympic team medals with the West German épée team: silver in 1976 and 1988, and gold in 1984. He also won two team golds and two team silver medals at the Worlds and, additionally, his greatest sports moment came at the 1987 Lausanne Worlds when he won the individual épée gold. Fischer was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He later added several senior championships. By profession, Fischer became a graduated industrial manager.
