Foil fencer Thorsten Weidner won two Olympic team medals, at Seoul 1988 (silver) and Barcelona 1992 (gold). Individually, he finished 25th at Barcelona. At World Championships he won individual silver in 1991 and bronze in 1994. Weidner also won two team golds (1987 and 1993) and five team silvers (1985-86, 1989, 1991, 1994). Nationally, he won the individual title in 1989, and silver in 1986 and 1994.
Weidner was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He later worked at the Mercedes-Benz Mainfranken branch in Würzburg, in sales for new, second hand and company cars.
