Biography

German foil fencer Ingo Weißenborn was on the gold medal-winning team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He had his greatest moment in 1991 when he won the individual gold medal at the World Championships. He also won team gold in 1993, team silver in 1991, and team bronze in 1986 (representing East Germany).

Weißenborn later turned to coaching and was the German national chief coach with the women’s foil team from 2004-09. After that he became national coach at the high-performance centre and boarding school of the Austrian Fencing Association in Vienna. In 2020, he returned to Germany to coach TSV 1880 Neu-Ulm.
