Szabolcs Pásztor started fencing at the age of 15 after his brother joined the Army. An épée specialist, he finished in the top six in only his second ever competition. He moved to Budapest soon after and joined Bp. Honvéd, with whom he won the national team championship in 1980, and followed that with seven more titles up to 1991. Pásztor won the individual Hungarian Championship in 1981 and 1985 and became a member of the national team in the second half of the eighties. Pásztor competed at the Seoul Olympics, where Hungary finished sixth in the team competition. After his competitive career, he no longer became involved in fencing.
