Biography

Giorgio Anglesio only competed in two matches for the Italian épée team at the 1956 Olympics. He lost 5 of his bouts, winning 3. This was nevertheless sufficient for the Italians to advance, and his team mates secured the gold medal in the final. Anglesio also won 6 World Championship golds, all in the épée. In 1955, he won the individual world title, leading an Italian clean sweep of the medals. With the team, he won five more championships (1950, 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1957). In 1954, he also took the Italian title in the individual épée. In honour of his sporting achievements, Giorgio Anglesio was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
