Biography

Dino Diana representing Savona was a lieutenant of the 44th Infantry Regiment when he made a name for himself for the first time winning the 1899 Asti tournament in the sabre, by defeating his future Olympic teammate Sante Ceccherini. Due to his military duties, he missed major tournaments again and again. In 1902 he excelled at the international tournament in Torino and came second with the épée and sabre in the Como tournament. In 1904, he won the Royal Sabre Competition for the military in Rome. Diana continued to achieve good results with all three weapons during the following years. After winning the Italian championship with the foil in 1907, he was selected for the 1908 Olympics in London, where he competed in the individual events with épée and sabre but was eliminated in the first round in both events.

In 1909, Diana made the podium of the Italian championships with the foil for a last time placing third. After being transferred to the 79th Infantry Regiment in Verona in 1911, he was on the list of Italian fencers selected for the 1912 Olympic Games but did not start.
