Baron Alfred Potenani was a banker, who resided for several in London including during the time of the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. Already living in London, he offered a challenge cup for a fencing competition in 1908 and was later described as a very well-known patron of Italian fencing. In Stockholm he competed only in the individual sabre tournament where he was eliminated in round two. In the Official Report he was also listed as a judge in fencing.
Baron Pontenani married Mai Osborne, daughter of an English army captain in 1921.
