Born Leo Salomon, he had his surname legally changed to Nardus on 20 February 1911. Nardus was better known as an artist than a fencer, and his 1912 Olympic appearance is his only major result. Nardus was a great chess fan, supported many players, and was a decent amateur player himself. He painted portraits of several grandmasters, including Emanuel Lasker and Frank Marshall. Between 1894 and 1908, he worked as an art dealer in the United States, but many of the paintings he sold were misattributed or even forgeries. He travelled a lot, living in France, Spain, Italy and Northern Africa. He eventually settled in Tunisia, where he died in 1955.
