Like his father before him, Herman Cousins worked on the London Stock Exchange, and when they founded their own boxing club in 1905, he was inaugurated as club captain. He held that position until 1908 when he was made a life-president. In addition to the Stock Exchange BC, Cousins was also a member of the German Gymnastic Club, and also the Mincing Lane and Belsize Boxing Clubs. He was also a member of the National Sporting Club (NSC) and, as a boxer, his best win was probably in capturing the lightweight title at the German Gymnastic Society Championship in 1889. After retiring from fighting, he became a respected referee and judge and, in addition to officiating at the 1908 London Olympics, he refereed two ABA finals. The first was the 1907 featherweight final between Charlie Morris and Harry Holmes, and in 1910 he was in charge of the heavyweight final between Fred Storbeck (South Africa) and Bruce Logan. Cousins also ran his own Stock Exchange Cricket XI.
