Biography

Vittorio Paolo Fiorito was an Italian basketball referee who directed the top Italian men’s league for 22 years (1969-91), officiating 583 matches and 11 finals for the Italian title, notably along with Maurizio Martolini. Fiorito officiated at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the 1986 FIBA Men’s World Basketball Championship in Spain, as well as three editions of the European Championships (1987, 1989, 1991) and one of the women’s European Championships held in Sardinia, Italy (1974). In 2009 he was inducted into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame. Fiorito received the Martiradonna Prize twice (1981, 1985), the A.N.A.I.B. Prize 3 times (1983-85), and the Reverberi Prize in 1986.
