Romanian handball coach Bogdan Macovei managed the women’s national teams in Romania and Macedonia during his career. Macovei first became the coach of the Romanian women’s team in 1988, working with the team until 1993, before going to coach domestic teams in Macedonia. By 1996 he had become the head coach of the Macedonian team and led them at the 1997 World Championships where they faced and beat Romania in a tightly fought match.
Macovei returned to coach teams in Romania in 1998 and was appointed as the coach of the women’s national team for a second time in 1999. The same year Romania finished in fourth place at the World Championships and went on to finish in seventh place at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After his retirement Macovei worked for the Romanian Handball Federation.
