Nils Bonde was the son of a Swedish count and landowner and an English mother. Bonde himself was also a count, a major in the Horse Guards, and a military attaché at the Swedish embassy in Bruxelles. He married his wife in 1910, with the couple constructing the Villa Bonde building in Stockholm in 1924, which later housed the Turkish embassy.
In 1928 Bonde served as a judge in the final standings of the equestrian dressage competition at the Amsterdam Olympics, which saw his older brother Carl win silver in the team event. 16 years earlier Carl had won gold in the individual dressage event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.
