Tamir Bloom competed in épée fencing at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Bloom also won two silvers in both individual and team épée at the 1999 Pan American Games. He competed four times at the World Championships. Bloom was US Champion in épée in 1998-99.
Bloom attended the University of Pennsylvania, and then attended the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He did an orthopaedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at Rady’s Children Hospital in San Diego. Bloom practiced pediatric orthopaedics in northern New Jersey.
Bloom had dual USA and Israeli citizenship and was a cousin of 2000 Israeli judo Olympian Gil Ofer. Bloom was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
