John Dimond began fencing in 1916 under George Patton while at Cavalry School. He represented the Washington Fencers Club. He won the AFLA Championship in the épée in 1924. Dimond was better known as a fencing coach, serving as head coach at the US Military Academy from 1923-48. He was coach of the US Olympic team in 1924, and coached the US Olympic modern pentathlon team in 1932 and 1936.
