Cláudio Mortari was a popular player with Palmeiras in the 1960s, retiring in 1973 when he took over as coach of the team. Mortari coached numerous teams in Brazil, including Bradesco, Corinthians, Pirelli, Telesp, Rio Claro, Mogi das Cruzes, Mackenzie, Flamengo, Campos, Paulistano, São Bernardo, and Esporte Clube Pinheiros. He also worked as a university professor at Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU).
