Ivan Galabov graduated from French College and the First Men’s High School, both in Plovdiv. He later attended coaching school and started his career on the bench. In 1967 Galabov became head coach of the Bulgarian women, leading them at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics, winning bronze and silver medals, respectively. He also led Bulgaria to silver medals at the 1972 and 1973 European Championships.
