Huang Meishun, from Tiangkeng village in Dongguan, moved from Guangzhou to Hong Kong as a teenager to play for the South China Athletic Association as a center. Even though he was already listed for the Chinese squad at the 1925 Far Eastern Games, he was still playing in the Third Division. During the 1929-30 season, he was finally installed in the First Division team. Subsequently he mostly played in the midfield, but also spent time as an inside-right. In 1934 Huang played in the Far Eastern Games.
Shortly after his participation in the Olympics he was suspended for one year because of a serious foul. Huang’s only known later appearance was in 1938 as inside-right against a visiting English team. Afterwards, he mysteriously disappeared. Rumors say that he might have been captured or killed by the Japanese. There is no information about his fate, however, even though his family still lives in Hong Kong. The most likely scenario is that he was brought to the island of Hainan by the Japanese and died there. While his family remained in Hong Kong impoverished, they received some financial support from the Football Association and his wife was provided with a hawker’s license.
