Biography

Egyptian football defender Mohamed Omar began his career with the youth team of Al-Ittihad in 1974. Three years later Omar had joined their senior ranks, staying with the team for most of his career. During the 1980s he was also a mainstay with the Egyptian national team, playing in 58 matches. In 1983 he was part of the squad that won bronze at the Mediterranean Games. One year later he made the Olympic team for the Los Angeles Games, playing in the quarter-final fixture against France. Arguably his biggest success with the national team came two years later when Egypt won the African Cup of Nations tournament at home.
