Hussein Madkour won his first title with Al-Ahly in the Cairo League (the predecessor to the Egyptian Premier League) in 1939. During his tenure with the club, which lasted through 1949 and included a stint as captain, he won the Cairo League three more times (1942, 1943, and 1948), the inaugural Egyptian Premier League title (1949), and the Egypt Cup seven times (1940, 1942, 1943, 1945-1947, and 1949). The peak of his career occurred during World War II, limiting his ability to represent Egypt internationally, but he did take part in the 1948 London Olympics, where his country was eliminated in round one. After retiring from active competition, he worked for many years as a sports commentator.
