Biography

Ragnar Wickström played as a forward for Kronohagens Idrottsförening in Helsinki, later renamed FC Kiffen. With the club he won the Finnish championships in 1913, 1915 and 1916. Wickström became also the first chairman of KIF (1908-12).

At the 1912 Olympic Games, the Finnish team defeated Italy (in overtime) and Russia in the first two rounds but were overmatched against England in the semi-final and the Netherlands in the bronze medal match. Wickström played in three of the four games. In the match against England, he was injured and had to be replaced for the bronze medal match.

After the Olympics, he continued to play internationally and won a total of 17 caps from his début in 1912 until 1923, scoring two goals, both in a friendly against Sweden in 1919. He was also appointed captain in three games of the national team. In 1932, he acted as referee in a match between Estonia and Sweden. Wickström was an office manager by profession and married Edit Alina (née Haavisto) in 1925.
